Thank you so much for the pathos and sorrowful voice you give to the song. Moves me.

No wonder he says: "KATHY I AM LOST..."

He can't find America because "America" is not a country, but a continent.

What he's really looking for is the United States of America, a federation of states—much like its neighbor, the United Mexican States (Estados Unidos Mexicanos). (*)

So many of us are currently feeling just like this;

The speed around us is so vertiginous that... we can't actually move

There was big pain in 1968 when the song came out as there is now.
