I’m going down memory lane today after rediscovering a batch of special songs I recorded 10 years ago in New Orleans. When I was 25 I recorded my first studio album entitled “ALB”, which had the personality of all my favorite genres, a blend of Americana, pop, folk and blues. Last night one of my old childhood friends was searching for it online and asked why he couldn’t find it on Spotify & iTunes, and I remembered that many years ago, I deleted the album from Spotify after trying to rebrand and release new music. I have no recollection of any of the reasons why I kept all these songs offline and for CD only, I guess music streaming services were different back in 2013. So last night I did some digging around on one of my old hard drives, and found all the mastered songs of my first album and oof…It was emotional listening back to my younger self, my words, my guitar, my dreams and my music style. So why not release the songs here on Substack!? It’s special to share these songs again so many years later.
*Look how young I look below! Here’s the album cover I designed for the CD.
“Stay The Same” is a song about accepting unrequited love. For years I was in love with a girl who at no fault of her own, wasn’t ever able to give back the love I so desperately craved (She’s just not that into you *cough *cough). The true heart of the song is about feeling grateful for the feeling of having loved and knowing that the special feeling of loving someone is something that no one can take away from you, even in heartbreak.
Stay the Same.
Such a heart-felt song, so glad you unearthed this one to share. Found myself humming the outro with you.
So lovely! Her loss! :) Really nice production with that steel guitar background. I'm happy you rediscovered this work and are sharing it here.
